Check Lee CI Releases

To find someone released from Lee Correctional Institution, use South Carolina’s state corrections sources, not the Lee County jail roster. Lee CI holds state-sentenced men from across South Carolina. A departure can be a completed discharge, parole or community-supervision release, transfer to another prison, court movement, or handoff to another authority. Only some of those events return a person to the community. The correct Lee Correctional Institution release search combines the statewide released-inmate tool with current custody, supervision, notification, and focused SCDC records.

Lee CI Release Outcomes

Lee Correctional Institution is an SCDC close/medium-security prison for men. SCDC, not the Lee County Sheriff, controls assignments and release decisions. A person may leave the Bishopville institution because SCDC moved him to another prison, a hospital or security setting, or court on a writ. Those are movements within or alongside custody. They are not completed releases from the state system.

A true SCDC custody-ending event may be final discharge, parole, or another community-supervision route. Even then, the release destination matters. A detainer can cause another law-enforcement agency to receive the person. SCDC policy describes a final detainer audit and a temporary-custody receipt for such transfers. The prison departure and community return must therefore be confirmed as separate facts.

Search Lee CI Releases

The SCDC Released Inmate Search is the strongest official released-first channel. It is separate from the ordinary current-inmate locator. Set the beginning and ending release dates, choose the county field, and use the optional sex-offender filter only when relevant. Results appear ten at a time, and an Export control provides detailed output. Preserve the interface’s field labels rather than guessing what its county value means.

Follow a result through the state custody chain. Identity should be matched with the SCDC number and other public descriptors, not name alone.

  1. Search the released tool with a sensible date range and the applicable county selection.
  2. Page through all matches and inspect the exported fields.
  3. Check the ordinary SCDC search to see whether current state custody continues at another institution.
  4. Use SCDPPPS and SC VINE to verify parole or community supervision.
  5. Request the actual release record when a destination, timestamp, or status remains unclear.
Important: Transfer away from Lee CI is not release from SCDC. A current result at another institution resolves that distinction.

Lee CI Current Search Limits

SCDC’s ordinary inmate search covers people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC as of midnight on the previous day. It expressly excludes released offenders, county-jail sentences, parole, probation, other community supervision, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives. A zero result is expected after a completed SCDC release, but it does not itself prove when or how the person left.

The official current-search disclaimer makes that boundary clear before a user enters the locator. The captured source shows why the released tool must lead for a former prisoner.

The current locator is a custody cross-check, while the separate release list documents completed SCDC release entries.

A current detailed record may display a projected-release-related field, location, admission data, and a photograph. That image belongs to the SCDC record, not a Lee County jail booking. A projection is not an actual departure date and can change when sentence credit, discipline, court orders, parole action, or detainers change.

Lee CI Release Records

SCDC inmate records can include names and aliases, identifying numbers, committing county, offense and sentence data, sentence start, jail credit, SCDC admission, eligibility dates, projected release date, sentence adjustments, transfers, detainers, institution assignment, and status. Public access remains subject to law and redaction. Home addresses, Social Security numbers, clinical material, trust-account information, and victim or witness data are not part of a proper broad public request.

For proof of actual departure, ask for a narrow set: final release authorization, actual date and time, release or discharge type, release certificate when applicable, court-order release, final detainer review, and any temporary-custody receipt showing another agency received the person. Institution records move to central Inmate Records after release for retention, so central SCDC is the correct records route.

Lee CI Facility Facts

The SCDC institutions directory lists Lee Correctional Institution at 990 Wisacky Highway in Bishopville. It identifies the prison as a male close/medium institution opened in 1993 and gives two official phone numbers. Those details establish its state-prison role and distinguish it from the regional county jail.

Institution staff can answer facility-routing questions, but they do not replace the state released search, Inmate Records, or the supervising agency. Use the central record when the requested fact concerns a completed discharge rather than present facility operations.

Lee Release Name Collision

“Lee inmate” can point to two unrelated local custody paths. A person arrested by the Lee County Sheriff or Bishopville Police is generally booked at Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center in Sumter. Lee Correctional Institution, despite its Bishopville address, houses state-sentenced men assigned from across South Carolina. The county arrest roster cannot confirm an SCDC release, and an SCDC record does not prove a regional booking.

Custodial Handoffs From Lee CI

SCDC’s final release process checks warrants and detainers. A detainer signals that another authority may claim custody when the SCDC term ends. If an agency takes the person, SCDC’s temporary-custody documentation is stronger evidence than a vague status change. Request the receiving agency and handoff date, then confirm arrival with that agency.

Parole also needs a second check. A favorable parole decision authorizes release subject to processing and conditions; it does not prove physical departure. The SCDC released record establishes the custody event, while SCDPPPS establishes active community supervision. SC VINE can add notification or status context, but it is not a certified release certificate.

Final discharge should still be dated and attributed to SCDC. Another unresolved hold can alter the destination even when the state sentence ends. The safest conclusion names the exact custody layer: “released by SCDC,” “transferred within SCDC,” or “delivered to another agency.”

After a Lee CI Release

A person released to parole or community supervision reports under SCDPPPS rules and the assigned office. County of supervision may differ from the prison location, committing county, or arrest county. The Lee office is relevant only when Lee is the current supervision county. Search by supported identity fields and call the listed county office for current-day confirmation because the online supervision data reflects the previous day.

Before a state-prison departure, SCDC policy says retained identification and belongings are returned and an SCDC identification card receives an official release sticker. That is an SCDC procedure. No equivalent regional-jail property policy was verified, so it should not be extended to Sumter-Lee detainees.

Record the source date for every status. The released search, current locator, supervision record, and agency release file answer different questions. Together, they show whether someone left Lee CI, left SCDC, entered supervision, or remained in another authority’s custody.

Lee CI Projected Dates

A projected release date answers when SCDC custody may end under the department’s current calculation. It is not a promise of departure from Lee CI. The automated record follows a prisoner from admission through release and calculates release, parole, and program-eligibility dates. SCDC policy permits release-date information to be withheld during the initial audit, so a new admission may not yet have a reliable public projection.

Sentence structure can move the date. Jail-time credit may be corrected. Concurrent terms overlap, while consecutive terms run one after another. Good-conduct and earned work or education credits depend on the offense, assignment, conduct, and governing law. Credits can be forfeited or restored. Court amendments, another commitment, parole decisions, and detainers can also change either the date or destination.

South Carolina law imposes an 85-percent floor for qualifying no-parole offenses under Sections 24-13-100 and 24-13-150. Section 24-13-210 addresses good-conduct deductions, and Section 24-13-230 addresses work and education credit. These rules cannot be reduced to a simple subtraction for a named prisoner. Use the live SCDC field and agency record, label the value as projected, and attach the observation date. Once the person has left SCDC, replace the estimate with the actual released-search entry or final release record.
